The 2023 Friends of IHES Gala will be dedicated to Jazz and Physics and it will take place on November 2, 2023 at the fabulous Rainbow Room at Rockfeller Plaza, in the presence of Marilyn and Jim Simons, co-Chairs of Friends of IHES, and of Emmanuel Ullmo, Director of IHES.
In addition to the great science that trademarks all galas organized by Friends of IHES, this edition will include an exclusive live musical performance. Keynote speaker Stephon Alexander, a theoretical physicist specializing in cosmology, particle physics and quantum gravity, an author and a professional saxophonist, will offer unique insights into the harmonies and rhythms of the universe. He will also coordinate the musical performance, partnering with top-level jazz musicians, including widely acclaimed and winner of two Grammy awards, drummer Will Calhoun.
Master of ceremonies Marcus G. Miller, a versatile musician with a degree in mathematics from Harvard University, will guide the audience through the evening.
This special event will take place under the high patronage of Laurent Bili, Ambassador of France to the United States and of Jérémie Robert, Consul general of France in New York.
The guests in the room will also have a chance to get access to exclusive experiences and unique items by taking part in the live auction led by global thought leader Lydia Fenet. The funds collected during the evening will support IHES and the groundbreaking science carried out by its researchers.
Friends of IHES thanks the generous benefactors who have already contributed to supporting this gala. Special thanks to the Simons Foundation International, to premier sponsor Société Générale, silver sponsor XTX Markets, bronze sponsors Bristol Assurances, Michael R. & Nina Douglas, and Kavita Shah & Benjamin Servenay, as well as copper sponsor Bloomberg.
