Friends of IHES, Inc. was created in 1999. It is a Public Charity under Section 170 (b) (1) (A) (vi) of the Internal Revenue Code and exempt from Federal Tax under Section 501 (c) (3). Its primary goals are:
- to increase the visibility of IHES (Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques) in the United States
- to coordinate the network of current and former American visiting scholars to the Institute
- to raise funds for IHES.
IHES is a leading center for fundamental research in mathematics, theoretical physics and related disciplines, renowned in the international scientific community and located in France. It was created in 1958 by Léon Motchane, an industrialist with a passion for mathematics. For more information visit IHES website.
