Countdown to the 2021 Friends of IHES Gala: Promoting women in mathematics (Week-6)

It’s now only 6 weeks to the Friends of IHES gala, that will take place on November 16!

This year’s edition will be dedicated to “Women in fundamental research” and it will be an occasion to raise funds to support IHES researchers and address the issue of women underrepresentation in science, more particularly at IHES, where only 10% of researchers are female.

To identify the best ways to reduce that gap and strengthen the Institute’s inclusion policy, IHES wishes to take advantage of the hindsight and know-how of experts and associations that have a long experience in raising awareness and promoting equal opportunities for women, particularly in mathematics.

On Monday, October 4, IHES is organizing a panel discussion on Promoting women in mathematics, featuring Eva Bayer-Fluckiger, Professor Emeritus at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Kathryn Leonard, president of the Association of Women in Mathematics, that is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and Andrea Walther, convenor of the European Women in Mathematics.

Michael R. Douglas, President and Chairman of Friends of IHES, will make the concluding remarks.

The event will take place in a hybrid format at 12pm EDT, both at the Marilyn and James Simons Conference Center, IHES, and online.
